The International Institute of Medical Qigong

Fashioned after the Medical Qigong College at the Hai Dian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China, the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ) is known internationally for maintaining the highest standards in medical qigong instruction and clinical therapy. Because of these consistent standards, the Chinese Ministry of Health honored the IIMQ in 2005 as meeting or exceeding the Chinese standards for academic and clinical instruction.

 

In February 2006, the Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (HUTCM) authorized the IIMQ to be the Overseas College of Medical Qigong for HUTCM. The IIMQ will represent the University in all medical qigong matters within the United States.

 

Founded in 1985 by Professor Jerry Alan Johnson , the IIMQ has been educating Westerners in Chinese energetic medicine for over 20 years. Upon the announcement of Professor Johnson’s semi-retirement in 2005, Dr. Bernard Shannon was named his successor and Executive Director of the IIMQ.

 

The IIMQ currently has clinical branches in 8 countries and 13 states and authorized instructors in 4 countries and 8 states.

The IIMQ's international training facility is located in Palm Desert, California .

 

The Palm Desert Training Facility’s landscape has been designed to join ascetic enjoyment with function. The waterfall, pond, and bamboo garden bring a refreshing oasis to the desert. The atmosphere created for day travelers and residential students is warm and cordial.

 

For a small fee students can experience cutting edge healing therapies such as a far infra-red solo sauna and several different Ozone therapies.

 

The Coachella Valley as a resort area offers fantastic desert landscapes, fine dining (including vegan), and shopping.

The Executive Director

Dr. Bernard Shannon is an internationally recognized teacher of Daoist cultivation, alchemical and mystical practices; medical qigong therapy; and martial concepts. He has trained in martial, medical, and spiritual qigong for over twenty years.

 

Dr. Shannon is the Executive Director of the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ) and the Head Instructor for the Temple of Peace and Virtue. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board with the National Qigong Association (NQA) and is on the Executive Committee with the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong (China).

 

Additionally he has been acknowledged by the National Qigong Association as a Advanced Clinical Therapist and a Level IV Qigong Teacher. These are the highest certification granted by the National Qigong Association. They denote wisdom, insight, qi transmission, empowerment, and the mentoring of others in the field.”

 

Additionally, Bernard is an ordained Daoist priest; he is knowledgeable in both alchemical and mystical practices

 

Also a Shifu / Sifu (Master Instructor) in Baguazhang and Yang Family Taijiquan holding certificates of instruction and lineage from associations China, Taiwan, and the United States.

In 2008, the Chinese Ministry of Health (Beijing) recognized Dr. Shannon’s experience by elevating his post from Medical Qigong Clinical Director to Vice Director of Medical Qigong, upon the recommendation of Western District Medical Qigong Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute (China).

 

A licensed physician in China specializing in medical qigong, Dr. Shannon, received his Doctor of Medical Qigong (DMQ) from the Western District Medical Qigong Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute (China), License # 98029.08 and the International Institute of Medical Qigong (USA). He completed his residency training while treating patients at the Xi Yuan Hospital (China).

Dr. Shannon began his studies of internal alchemy and mysticism in the late 1980s with one of his martial arts instructors who was a master the Profound schools of alchemy and mysticism.

 

Since that time, he has had many teachers, and he regularly travels to China to continue his training in both Northern and Southern schools of Daoist alchemy and mysticism.

    A Daoist temple specializing in cultivation, alchemical and mystical practices; medical qigong therapy; and Wu Dang martial concepts.

  • Ordained Priest in Zheng Yi Daoism
    Received formal “Lu” ordination as a Daoist Priest at the 900th Year Anniversary of the Founding of the Celestial Master’s Mansion in Long Hu Shan, Jiangxi province.

  • Ordained Priest in Quan Zhen Daoism
  • Received "Shou Jie" ordination as a Daoist Priest; conferred the post and title of Abbot (Dao Zhang) with the Temple of Peace and Virtue (An De Fu Shen Gong). I had served as Chief Instructor (Zhu Chi) from its inception in 2006.

  • 21st Generation Disciple of Long Men Pai (Dragon Gate sect), Qing Cheng Shan Si Chuan province.

  • 66th Generation Disciple of Tian Shi Pai (Celestial Master’s sect), Long Hu Shan, Jiangxi province.

  • 80th Generation Disciple of Shang Qing Pai (Highest Purity sect), Mao Shan, Jiangsu province.

Baguazhang and Yang Family Taijiquan holding certificates of instruction and lineage under the authority of the Taijiquan Federation of Taiwan (China), the Beijing Martial Arts Association (China), the Primordial Chaos Martial Healing Center (China), the International Institute of Medical Qigong (USA), and the Hsing Chen Internal Arts Association (USA).

 

Dr. Shannon started his martial training in the late 1980s and has trained in several styles including Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Judo, and Jujitsu.
