After educating Westerners in Chinese energetic medicine for over 25 years, Dr. Bernard Shannon founded the International College of Medical Qigong (ICMQ).The ICMQ operates under the Temple of Peace and Virtue.

The ICMQ is an outgrowth of his recent seven successful years of service as the Executive Director and master instructor for the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ). The IIMQ was fashioned after the Medical Qigong College at the Hai Dian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China, and is known internationally for its high standards in medical qigong instruction and clinical therapy.

Dr. Shannon’s vision for the ICMQ includes expanding and deepening the standards of experiential, clinical, and instructor education that he established during his service for the IIMQ.

The roots of the ancient medical qigong tradition are the direct experiences of early practitioners of spiritual Daoism, shamanism, and of the internal Chinese martial arts. In accord with these roots, Dr. Shannon’s experience as a Daoist Priest, and Shifu/Sifu of Chinese martial arts enable him to deeply enrich the training of medical qigong students.

Opportunities to become rooted in spirit, firmly established within the Three Treasures of Heaven, Earth, and Man, and to manifest the subtle mechanics of structural alignment and qigong breath work are offered. The promises of healing presence and ability expressed in the Classics of Chinese medicine are made available to students.

Our Vision

A world in balance – one person at a time

Our Mission

To utilize our skills and experience to:

  • Provide the highest quality Medical Qigong instruction.
  • Empower clients to take charge of their lives by balancing the mind, body and spirit.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes growth, healing, self-awareness, and transcending perceived limitations.
  • Teach clients the tools necessary to overcome physical and psycho-physical maladies and illness.
  • With severe health problems, the removal of my left lung and brain surgery, it was, at times, hard to breathe and I was depleted of physical energy. During my very first session with you I could feel the energy vibrate in the missing lung cavity. With subsequent sessions I felt many beneficial changes in my body, mind and spirit. I am now breathing more efficiently, have more physical endurance and my attitude is increasingly positive. Through my sessions and Qigong exercises I feel inspired to be a part of my healing process.

  • Bernard, I wanted to thank you for the Qigong treatment last weekend. The chest congestion I was feeling was alleviated and I was much more relaxed afterwards. As we discussed, I felt a warm, relaxing sensation in the affected area and that has lasted several days. I look forward to the next treatment. Thanks again.
